Welcome

Welcome All!

I figured a little introduction was in order before we kick things off.

My name is Veronica and I live in the Colorado Rockies outside of Boulder. I've dabbled in minimalism off and on for the past five years or so. Last year I got down to the fewest items I'd owned since I was living in tiny Boston apartments as I prepared to sell my house and move from New York to Colorado, but in the past year my possessions have skyrocketed again.

I figured the best way to deal with this (since I'm a bit of an all-or-nothing extremist) was to attempt the 100 Thing Challenge. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's a challenge created by David Bruno to live with 100 things for a year. (He even wrote a book about it. You can also watch his TED Talk -admittedly not as captivating - here.)

In general, you create a list of 100 things you will you have for the year. Now, there are definitely no hard and fast rules to this. In fact, Bruno encourages tweaking it to make the challenge work for you. (For example, Bruno counted his library of books as one "thing.")

Although the challenge won't start until January 1st, I'll be spending the next five weeks preparing. I've started my list of 100 things, which I'll share in an upcoming post (including what items I've "grouped" and what items don't count. I'll also be both decluttering and packing away as many of the rest of my possessions as possible.

I'm really excited to get back to basics. I'm a little nervous - both of whether I can do it and also what people (including my lovely partner) will think. I do think it will do me good as I've been feeling very overwhelmed lately - not just with my belongings but in general. I'm hoping that by paring things down to the essential I'll regain some calm and focus.

I hope you join me on this journey and I look forward to your comments. If you're dong the challenge as well definitely let me know as I'd love to follow along and offer support!

Hugs,

Veronica
